I have been intrigued by the idea of investing in frontier markets - especially in fast growing African countries and in Qatar - as it seems that with the emerging markets saturated and feeling the strain of poor capital accounts, the opportunities may lie in harder to find areas. As this graphic shows, the move into frontier markets is happening and the performance in 2013 was much better than that seen in the emerging market space. Of course access is a problem (not that many ETF that cater to frontier trading) as well as liquidity and tiny market capitalizations which means that prices are controlled be fewer players. Still, I'd like to get some people thinking about the possibilities and if anyone out there has some good ETF's or investment vehicles that take advantage of frontier markets, let me know in the comment section below.
